The following is the text of a letter that Mac and Virginia McKnight wrote to his parents (in Texas) after their wedding in May of 1948.  I inserted their wedding picture after the letter.

(Mac writes first)

Wednesday night

Dear Folks,
I just received the latest birth announcement.  Pretty good.  Congratulations.   I'm glad it was a boy.  I didn't want no droopy little niece.  I haven't had time to get that cigar yet.  I'll do it Saturday.  The cigar that breathes, I'll bet that is the kind that Clyde passed around.
The rest of this letter is gong to be about the wedding.  Virginia is much better at details than I am.  She said if I started it, she would finish it.  All I know is that she was lovely and I was nervous.  I can hardly wait until next spring when I can bring her down and show her off.  I'll quit now.

(Virginia begins writing)

I guess the best way I can start this is to tell you how happy I am and that I think Dalton is the most wonderful person in the world.   I went home (about 150 miles from here) a week before we were married.  It was a long, lonesome week apart from Dalton but we had Saturday to look forward to.   During the week they had a bridal shower for me and we received many wonderful gifts.
At last Saturday arrived and we were two very nervous people until after 3 PM.  It was a very small wedding with only the family there.  The church looked very pretty with flowers and candles.  One of my high school friends played the organ while the Minster read the service.
After we got home again they had a reception for us.  We had a 3 tier cake with a little bride and groom on top.  Then about 5:30 PM we left on our honeymoon with a very decorated car.
I wore a gold colored suite and had a purple orchid.  Dalton had a new tan suit, and I'm sure you would have been very proud if you could have seen him.
I'll try and be good to him and keep him happy.  We're waiting for the day when we can get to Texas to see you people.

                                                                    Love,
                                                                    Mac & Virginia
